Policy Overview

UNC provides advanced placement opportunities for individuals with relevant military healthcare training. Eligible positions include, but are not limited to:

• Basic Medical Technician Corpsman (Navy HM or Air Force BMTCP)

• Army Health Care Specialist (68W Army Medic)

• Air Force Independent Duty Medical Technician (IMDT 4NOX1C)

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for advanced placement, applicants must:

1. Provide official transcripts from appropriate education program(s) demonstrating satisfactory completion of coursework and clinical experience.

2. Provide documentation of experience to include DD214 and history of work assignments.

3. Provide one letter of recommendation.

4. Meet all general entrance requirements of the Associate Degree Nursing Program:

• completion of science prerequisite courses
• general education courses for the Nursing Major
• a score of 70% or better on the HESI A2 entrance exam

Application Process

Upon review of the required documentation and upon determination that the applicant has met the educational and experience requirements, as well as the additional nursing program admission requirements, the student will be required to demonstrate competency by successfully passing the following examinations:

• Medication dosage calculation exam (90% or greater)
• Nursing content exam (70% or greater)
• Nursing skills validation evaluations

The following materials will be made available to the applicant once eligibility for the challenge process is confirmed:

• The course syllabus and course objectives
• The course content outline
• Learning materials list
• Sample examination question format

Written and skills validation evaluations for challenge/ advanced placement must be completed at least eight weeks before admission into the program.

Advanced Placement will be granted if the applicant meets the requirements.

Advanced placement is contingent on meeting all requirements and seat availability.

Candidates who do not meet all the requirements may apply to N100 under the generic student requirements.
