Non-Degree LVN 30 Unit Option

Non-Degree LVN 30-Unit Option

This option is not a program offered by United Nursing College, but a regulatory pathway that allows qualified LVNs to meet minimum educational requirements to be eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) as a non-graduate.

United Nursing College does not offer this option as a program of study and does not award a degree or certificate upon completion.

The non-degree licensure pathway provides a Registered Nursing license for California only. No degree is granted upon completion. The student should also be aware that they cannot change their status from a non-degree 30-unit option RN to a degree RN with the Board of Registered Nursing at any time after licensure.

Most other states do not recognize California’s LVN 30-unit option and will not issue RN licenses to these LVNs in their state. United Nursing College acts as a facilitator. A maximum of 30 units of nursing and support courses are required to fulfill the unit requirement for licensure by the BRN. The 30-unit option student will then take the NCLEX-RN exam as a non-graduate. Students may have difficulty applying to a college or university for an advanced degree.

REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY: Please refer to our Course Catalog.

Additional information concerning the LVN 30-Unit Option is available from the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), P.O. Box 944270, Sacramento, CA 94244-2100, (916) 322-3350.

TO BEGIN YOUR INQUIRY: Please email all unofficial transcripts to info@uunursing.com with the subject line "LVN 30-Unit Option Interest". You will be contacted by an Admissions representative with additional information.

Disclaimer

The LVN 30-unit option is not a universally recognized or transferable pathway. In most cases, the courses completed in the LVN 30-unit option pathway are not transferable to a four-year university for credit toward a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN). Industry standards do not recommend the hiring of 30-unit option graduates.

Applicants who are considering the 30-Unit option must first complete their prerequisites then arrange an appointment to speak with the Director of Nursing to review admission requirements and career options.
